This is growing on the grounds of the Hotel Quito, but the city has a whole bunch more of them. I can get as far as Araucaria, but I'm wondering which species it is, since the pictures I have found so far don't show the bunching of the branch tips the way this one has. (The tree in the center; colour is a bit off due to it being a nighttime shot under sodium lamps)

Seriously Dr. Seuss-y trees, and I really want to grow one, but I'd like to know which one to ask for at the nursery.

Start by comparing with hoop pine (Araucaria cunninghamii).

Upon closer inspection, I'm leaning more towards Parana (Araucaria angustifolia) - it's got the triangular razor-sharp leaves, and the right growth habit.

I agree with Ron. It does look more like A. cunninhamii but I suppose that would be a bit far from home. A. angustifolia is probably more likely in that respect.
Mine is still only young (angustifolia) and is still very conical. I managed to defy the local experts who told me it wasn't hardy enough to last the first winter outside. It been through 2 winters now and looks stronger than ever.
