At our local Senior Center they have maybe a 20ft tall Monkey Puzzle tree. Last year the very lowest limbs turned reddish brown and were removed. The "gardeners" at the center are volunteers but they seem knowledgeable because every thing else is doing very well. I took a good look at the tree today and now most of the rest of the branches are turning this reddish brown, plus, now there are a large number of great globs of white to yellow pitch running down the trunk. It looks a real mess. It is planted in the middle of a bit of a hill at the top edge of the lawn and we think maybe water from the yards behind is running down the hill through the root spread of the tree, and giving it too much water. There is a bald spot in the grass at the lowest part of the lawn below the tree. I don't think this is normal but I don't know. Does any one have a clue about what is going on??? barb
