    Hi there,

I received an apricot tree as a gift last fall and planted it. Over the winter, the dogs must have been playing and landed on it. The main stem cracked and bent over....but it still seems to have some connectivity to the roots.
What I've done to patch it is: staked it upright, applied plumber's putty (it says non toxic on the can) to the main crack, and used soy wax to cover all the exposed inner bark. Did I do it right or wrong?? It's warming up so fast I had to do something but I'm really hoping I didn't kill it....Any advice would be welcome!
    Thanks!

Time will tell. If a grafted named selection you do want to hang onto the part above the graft union or all you will end up with is the rootstock.
