I have a 25 year old tree in full blossom. It's been a little windy the last few days. How long do the flowers need to be on the tree before losing petals will eliminate fruit? Am I doomed to having no fruit this year?

I grew apricots in Edmonton, which is waaaay north of you, and they used to bloom about now too. My biggest worry was that the snow would kill them and the crows would eat what was left.

If you're worried about the set, then go out with a soft sable paintbrush and pollinate the blooms yourself. Then it won't matter if they lose their petals. I don't know if hungry birds are a problem for you in California; if they are I'd also suggest netting over the tree.
