I've just got my first case of apple scab. I took some diseased leaves into a garden centre and was directed to a copper spray (Bordo). My question is this: is this safe/effective to use since I've already got a good number of fruit set, or is it too late? will the spray harm the apples, or make them unsafe to eat? If it's to late for this year, should I just pick off the diseased leaves and hope for the best?
    Thanks

According to the label on the copper spray that I use (fixed copper), it can be used on most edible crops up to a day before harvest. Copper is one of the safest chemical sprays available.

If you have a lot of scab on your tree(s) it might be time to consider replacement with resistant cultivars.
