In The Garden: Apple or Cherry Tree ID

Hello,

We live in Oakville, ON. I think this is an apple tree (it's core has multiple seeds). Hoping to get a specific ID on it. Is it edible? (I have small kids and everything goes into their mouths). The leaves are green and the stem of leaf is reddish.

I tried to show the inside of the fruit by opening it, admittedly it's not a good shot.

All help is appreciated!

 

Crabapple. All are edible, however palatability varies with condition and kind.
