Hello. I have had a large potted jasmine plant for a little over a year. I keep it on my patio all summer and bring it inside in the winter (I live in Philadelphia). This summer it has slowly become covered with little black bumps. When I look closer at the plant, I can see what looks like very tiny black ants.

Does anyone know what these could be? Are they harmful for my plant?

I have been breaking them off but it is impossible to get them all as it is a fairly large plant.

Any insight into what these are and products available to treat my plant would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

I found a picture similar to what is on my plant but the website on which I found it did not really address the problem in depth. Image is located here http://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/gt/scale/scale4a.jpg

After doing more research on the internet, I have discovered that I have a Lecanium Scale infestation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I want to get this under control before I have to move the plant indoors for the winter.

    Thanks!
