Hello, I recently moved to Victoria, BC and have 3 large Aspen trees in my tiny yard. They are about 40 feet tall and lovely to look at. The problem is they are heavily infested with aphids. Aphid honeydew drips over the entire yard and now black mold is growing everywhere. Yuck! Is this a particularly bad year for aphids or can I expect this every summer? Can anything be done to control the problem? Thanks.
Many questions on this topic already in the Pest Management and ID forum - have a read through the replies. What's applicable for other trees is almost certainly applicable for aspens.
