I have 2 lovely plants i have had them for over 15 - 20 years they are all year round. this year i have a large stem growing out of them with buds on this as never happened as long as i have had them. does anybody know what sort of plants they are and the name.
Agave, most likely A. americana. They're blooming, which means that they've reached the end of their life cycle. Don't worry though - they'll send up offshoots, and the seeds will also make new plants.
:\ Looks similar to Yucca... This is the closest Yucca I could find, and was almost convinced until I saw the leaves were too thin: Yucca filamentosa http://texnat.tamu.edu/BrushBusters/images/YuccaBlooming.jpg http://www.smmtc.org/pix_Yucca_09.jpg Compare the stalk to this, an agave: http://www.sedonahikingtrails.com/i...e_butte/flowers-wildlife/4414-agave-cathy.jpg Your plant is rather small if it is an agave, and big if it is a yucca, but it will be easier to ID once the plant flowers.
