Hi, is Aka Shigitatsu Sawa a finicky variety? I just lost a second Aka Shigitatsu Sawa. If it is a tough grower then I would like to try this variety again. Thanks.

I've had one for more than a decade. Our only complaint it that it rarely shows much variegation and the leaves are pretty solidly green despite having planted it in the shadiest location we have (near the north side of our house). I would say that it grows as vigorously as shin deshojo but not as strongly as Orange Dream which we planted flanking our Aka. At any rate, I would not class it as a weak or fussy variety.

Good morning @SLR2009, I have had similar problems with Shigitatsu Sawa that you have had with Aka. I am on my third with this one now.
The placement of this cultivar is critical in my garden, the Beni fares OK but I find it needs a lot of protection from the sun's rays. Any over watering from a wet Spring even in well drained soil can be a problem.
All that said, even though I am a 3 strikes and out person, I wouldn't hesitate to replace minevif I lost this one. It is such a lovely maple.
I am very envious of J @Osoyoung, his must be a lovely size after a decade, very impressive growth equalling Shindeshojo.
