This tree is growing at Caroline Bay, Timaru, New Zealand. I photographed it in early summer (last December here). It appears to be evergreen and the flowers are very attractive to bees. I can't really relate it to anything I'm familiar with and haven't been able to get back to see if any fruit developed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The flowers and leaves remind me of Laurus.

But not the foliage or the tree shape!

I didn't notice any aroma from the foliage, either. The only scent was from the nectar.
