Two weeks ago, I went to a garden sale and picked up a nice plant. Beside it was this one. I'm not sure if it is a weed. I asked one of the people hosting the sale and they said, plant it and see what happens. So far, no flowers. What do you think?

Maybe a weed, maybe not. The leaf growth pattern reminds me of Mullein, but it's not fuzzy enough. I'd wait for flowers, myself.

I sure hope it's not Mullein. The leaves are not fuzzy at all.

Good idea. It makes me nervous not knowing whether or not it's a weed.

What's wrong with Mullein? I personally quite like it, and it has excellent medicinal properties. Then again, it does spread...

I've got a small backyard. I'm worried about it taking up too much room and spreading.

I'd leave it where it is until it flowers. If you like the flowers, keep it, if not, pull it out before it sets seeds.

I'm with Micheal. That way if it turns out to be something really lovely, like fairy cups, then you haven't turfed it out of hand.

I have no idea what it is with the absence of flowers but I can assure you it's not Mullein. I have tons of Mullein growing on my property, Mullein leaves are definitely fuzzy. I agree with Michael and lorax, leave it be until it flowers!

See, that's what I was just thinking. And if it's Evening Primrose you'll probably want to leave it in and just deadhead it before it setts seed - they're really lovely but they can be invasive.

I would love to see this plant from the side. I think I have the same plant, which I just planted last fall. I am curious if the stems are longer than they appear in the image. Unfortunately, I don't know what I planted. (A landscaper accidentally through away a bunch of perennials I had dug up to move to the new house. He couldn't recover mine, so just gave me a bunch of generic perennials as replacement.)

In general it is not too risky to let things bloom before deciding to rip them out. If it turns out to be an invasive seeder, you can rip it out when the flowers start and still prevent the spread.

Being an impatient gardener, I dug it out when I read the word invasive. But you've convinced me to give it another try. I moved it to a more remote location and I am submitting a side view photo. The leaves are a bit fuzzy.

Do you think it could be a blanket flower?

It's getting taller and taller. It's about knee high now. Still no flowers. Straight stem.
