Hello - A friendly poster on another board suggested that I post here. I got a plant from a friend who has the mother plant, which is much bigger than mine and has leaves that are twice as big and much greener. Mine looks unhealthy because there's not enough sun here. Couple of things: -there's a white substance when I cut a twig -it's very resilient -major phototropism -no flowers Some people have suggested it's a bamboo, but I think the white marks on the twigs are misleading -they're not growth marks, they're simply spots where there was previously a leaf. The mother plant has leaves all over the twigs, but mine suffers from a lack of sun (see picture). I'm wondering if it's maybe a weed, or something that was brought to the US or snuck through customs from South America...? As you can see, I have absolutely no idea what it is! I hope you can help, as I want to bring it back home to Canada, and so I need to identify it. Many thanks :)
Definitely NOT a bamboo. Interesting to say that when you cut the stem white sap comes out....Euphorbia maybe?? Someone may be able to id for you soon... Ed
Not a lot of white sap, but definitely a sticky substance. Another thing: the mother plant, which is MUCH bigger, has some woodsy twigs, especially at the base.
Pedilanthus (Euphorbia) tithymaloides I believe. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/26846/ Your plant is etiolated from lack of light. HTH Chris
