I have a large euc in my back garden, which we had topped last year (about 12' off leaving about 25'). I believe it's suffered with the immense cold through this last winter....losing bark, all the leaves have turned dull and crisp and it's now lost around 80% of the leaves. I was convinced it had died but have noticed that it's shooting quite well from the very base of the trunk level with the ground. Can anyone tell me what's best to do with it? I feel sure we need to cut it back but not sure how far to go. Like I said, all the branches look dead and it's only the very bottom that is showing any signs of life. The first 10' of the trunk from the ground has not lost all it's bark. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really don't want it to die!
All mine here in Texas USA are dead to the roots I suspect yours is as well... Time to cut it back to the new growth.
Thanks guys, I just noticed a couple of days ago we have new sprouts just above head height!! I'm going to give her another few weeks to see what happens but I am so pleased there are lovely signs of life! I am fully prepared to get it cut right back to where the new growth is, but I'm much more encouraged now.
