Possibly a Chrysanthemum.

 

Looks just like one. Check for characteristic smell.

 

Reading your thread just now remindedme that I have a plant that grew in a pot outside which I had set aside to empty and clean. I shall go tomorrow and take a photo as it is down by the pond and maybe someone can identify it. I kept it because it filled the pot and had such an interesting shape. Probably just a weed. Yes, it does have a distinct smell....a little sweet or "Fruity"....
