Should Amaryllis 'Silhouette' be given a dormancy like all other Amaryllis varieties, or is it treated like a tropical plant? The leaves haven't died back, and it hasn't flowered in a couple of years, to my knowledge. Any cultural information would be welcome. There doesn't seem to be much available on the internet.

I don't think any hippeastrums REQUIRE a dormancy, I think that is done primarily to get them to flower at a particular time--like Christmas. If flowering of yours has fallen off review your fertilization program, check light exposure. The most impressive indoor specimen I've seen--it had grown into a clump, was producing multiple flowerheads at the same time--was in an ordinary living room, near a probably not especially sunny window in southwest BC. It was getting regular fertilizing.

None of those need dormancy at all. Only to force into blooming. More light and regular fertilizer is probably needed. They are heavy feeders I understand.

Happy holidays and new year to you all.
