Many of the questions placed in the forum are on recurrent topics:

    • What is the best potting medium?
    • How to plant a japanese maple?
    • When and how to prune?
    • Watering requirements
    • Why leaves scorch?
    • Is this verticilium?
    • .......

There are already in the forum many threads that deal with most of them. Maybe the administrator (hello Daniel ;o)) could select some and stick them (maybe changing the title to make them more telling). By doing this, people may find answers without posting again and again the same questions.

The "Search" and "Search this thread" boxes on the pages can help a lot, but not sure how one could direct people to their use, nor how to use them. Some of us are not very adept at using computers.

GardenWeb has Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages on some forums. What is proposed here would be the same thing, aimed at the same problem.

Sarcasm is tough online. My comment was made in jest.

I can think of two ways to do this:

    1) Create a new "links" area that can be made into a FAQ forum - the links will just point to threads in the current forum.

    2) Add answers directly to the FAQ section of the forums, which I've not made good use of.

My preference is for the former, but it'll need to wait until I return from my seed collecting trip to be put in place.

Ok, I've created the links area for the Maple FAQ - now it needs to be populated with links to the threads that should be pointed out.

Throw a suggestion or two my way, and then I'll start things off to make sure everything's working.

OK, for pruning there is 'Good time to prune my Japanese maple'.

Done - so the process is relatively simple. Once in the Maple FAQ area, click on Add Entry in the navigation bar - then fill in the Name field with the FAQ question, and copy the URL of the thread into the URL field. All the rest of the fields can be left as the default.
