Aloe problem

    Does anyone recognize this aloe problem? It doesn't seem to match possible problems I've found described online. The fine black spots appear at the ends of the older growth and slowly move inward. Multiple plants are affected.

    Looks like Sooty mold which is not feeding on the plants but on honeydew.
    There's likely overhanging plant which is infested with sap sucking insects or scale.
    They excrete excess sugars which drip on the plants below feeding the fungus.

    Thanks for the reply! Nothing overhanging though, and whatever this is clearly always starts from the outer tip of the older growth...
