I have had a small Aloe plant for the past couple of months. It seems very healthy apart from one of the leaves which has had a small rough black spot underneath ever since I got it. This spot is indented so that there is no real flesh on the leaf in this area. It remained unchanged until about a week ago, but now there is discolouration spreading through to the top side of the leaf and it is becoming a bit wilted and droopy. Can anyone tell me what this is, whether the leaf needs removing and if so how to do it? I'm afraid I'm a bit of a novice on such matters. Many thanks.

How much and often do you water? Either it's too often (which I suspect) or not enough (which I doubt). Blackness often means rot somewhere, so take off anything that has some and maybe un-pot it to check roots for any slimy black parts that need cutting off (and maybe repot into soil with zero peat, and lots of grit in it for faster drainage - and never let the pot sit in drain water either).
