Purchased an Alocasia a few weeks ago, and after I bought it, did some reading. Everyone one seems to think it's a high-maintenance plant. Two things are happening with mine that I am curious about. a) one of the leaves has become soggy at the tip (about a quarter inch up) and drips. I quickly discovered that you can't touch the soggy tip with anything, or it will rip off. It has been doing this for about a week now. I assume this a sign that I am overwatering? Anything else I might need to do to correct this? b) Also, since shortly after I brought it home, one of the leaves has curled up, front to back, and remained that way. No discoloration or anything. Any ideas?
Do you know what Alocasia you bought? Maybe you are watering a bit much. And it is normal that a leaf "curled up" that means that leaf is going to die, which is normal, then maybe a new leaf will show up.
Almost all Alocasia during the cold months enter in a dormancy period and they appear like they are dead, but after the cold months, the become "alive" and new, bigger leaves will show up. In this website you can find a lot of information in Alocasia. http://www.exoticrainforest.com/plantscollection.html
