My mother gave me this one. It was quite full and had several branches. It finally looks like one stalk is coming back. If someone could tell me what it is and how to care for it I would greatly appreciate it. It was one of my favorites.

Looks like a parlor palm (Chamaedora elegans). Brown leaf tips indicate that humidity level needs to raised. ---Nice begonia!

Begonia eh! That was going to be one of my next questions. Thanks! Does the parlor palm like direct or indirect light. When it was dying it was in a west window and got direct afternoon sun. I moved it to the centre of the room now. Thanks for you help.

You did the right thing by moving the palm OUT of the direct sun. It should be happier now!

Yes I have one in full sun but it had been sun hardened. And it likes a lot of water. But as togata states , best you moved out of the sun as that particular plant would not be used to it : )

Give the palm bright indirect light and/or dapple light and water well when the top inch feels "close" to dry. They like semi moist conditions. Gently pull, or cut all that dry dead stuff away from the stems, it will look so much better....
