There is a plant outside my of Salt Lake City Utah office building that I brushed up against and my arm broke out in hives. I would like to know what I am allergic to and need help identifying the plant. The leaves of the plant vary in size up to at about 6 inches long. The leaves are elongated oval with smooth edges. The leaves are multi-veined and there are multiple leaves per bud. The leaves and the stems are fuzzy. The top of the leave is green and the underside has a slight grayish tinge to the green. The plant is a hedge-like shrub planted around the outside of our office building. It is currently about 6 feet tall but appears to be trimmed at the height and could grow taller with a width of about 3 feet. It seems to thrive in either a lot of sunlight or in more shaded areas of the building. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Wondering if it could be Viburnum rhytidophyllum, Leatherleaf viburnum, or close, even a hybrid. A paper titled "Hypersensitivity to Viburnum rhytidophyllum" comes up on google , but I can't seem to access it.
Agree with Chimera. Viburnum rhytidophyllum has cropped up before here, with people who have a allergy/hypersensitivity to it. http://books.google.com/books?id=h7...age&q=viburnum rhytidophyllum allergy&f=false
Thank you for the quick responses. I'll have to watch next spring and see what kind of blossoms it has but it does looks like the pictures I've found on-line.
