Wildflowers: Alfalfa Custer National Forest Montana

    Is this a form of Medicago sativa or some relative of alfalfa?

    This was photographed in July in Custer National Forest in southern Montana.

    Which Astragalus? Astragalus glycyphyllos?

    You need to pull apart a flower to distinguish Astragalus from Oxytropis to see if the keel is pointed or rounded. I'd lean towards Oxytropis on this one...

    And it's absolutely not alfalfa.
