I've just fallen in love with the Albizia Julibrissin and would like to plant it near my septic field. How close is too close?

Best keep it at least 10 metres away. Though whether Albizia julibrissin will do well with you is another matter - it needs very hot summers to grow well.

My neighbour has one that does well here in Vancouver.

There is a lot of information on line about what to plant near septic fields - some state extension departments have lists of trees and shrubs recommended (and not). An internet search for "tree septic" might bring some up.

Thanks for the info. Actually, the state sites said keep Albizia away fromt the septic field. I think the 10 meters is sage advice. I think I'll find another place for my silk tree and put something else near (3 metres away from) the septic.

Contact www.treetools.com and find out what the deepest root barrier is that they have.

I'd feel comfortable planting small trees right up to the edge of my own septic system if I put in a trench and dropped the root barrier panels into place.

But I think I'd want 4' deep. Or, trench 5' to 6' and slip panels top row overlapping bottom row.

I think they can be at least 3' deep, and maybe deeper.

Tree Tools ships out of state and out of country. Reliable company. I've bought from them for over 10 years.

    It's a thought.
