Air layering in the fall

    hallo where is the best period for air layering on the maple?
    is possible to do air layering in the fall?
    my zone is 9b

    Hi Alex, fall is too late IMO. Around middle of June time I have found to be best. ( zone 8b. Then you see roots growing through the spagnum moss in early August, already to be removed from the parent tree and potted up.

    I agree with Derek.
    Since the circulation of sap decreases in autumn, the chances of a tree to produce new roots is not optimum.
    I know people who start air-layering just before buds open (March), but they have a greenhouse. Here mid-June to mid-July (or even the end of July) is the best period.
