My husband bought me this cymbidium in March. It has been doing very well until the last week or so. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with it, and how to fix it? Picture 1 shows the bulb. 2 shows a leaf - there are 2 leaves that look like this. 3 shows the underside of another leaf. 4 is the healthy plant in bloom when purchased. Thanks, Sandy
Dry indoor conditions, possibly complicated by spider mites (which also thrive in dry indoor conditions). Reblooming a Cymbidium.....http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Recreation/OrchidSNS/cymbidiu.html
It it flowering right now? It isn't uncommon for Cymbidiums to loose leaves at this time of the year espescially if they are producing blooms (at least in my indoor conditions). They grow so fast when they get good light and fertilizer that your plant will easily gain more than it looses. After awhile you'll need to repot and maybe divide the plant and any of the leafless backbulbs can be removed then. I mist my orchids as often as possible but it only raises humidty briefly. Shaun
In the days I had to help look after 4000 Cymbidiums in a cold (hot) house I was told I must always water under leaves not over them. Also there was a routine of removing spent leaves. They were part of the cycle. Liz
it is not flowering, nor showing any signs of it. I was wondering if it is better for the plant to remove the damaged leaves. Sandy
Don't think the leaves are causing the non flowering. I would just remove them. This might help with the non flowering http://www.ivensorchids.co.uk/cymbidium.htm http://www.waldecks.com.au/caresheets/Orchids.PDF http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/orchids/msg0123435527105.html?6 Liz
