Just noticed these this morning on my Philodendron martianum, I presume they are aerial roots, can anyone confirm. Are these palnts climbers or not? Ed
Nope not a climber. I think P. martianum typically grows as an epiphyte though. They do look like aerial roots to me though but many non climbing Philos get these roots.
Just checked the references and can only find it as a terrestrial species. It is found only in southeastern Brazil near the island of Santa Catarina. That does not mean it cannot grow as an epiphyte, I just can't find a reference that indicates it does. A note from Leland Miyano in Hawaii indicated it can grow in quite a mass on the ground.
Thanks for clearing that Steve. For some reason I thought it was an epiphyte but there is not much on the internet about the species.
