My partner and I are retiring to The Upper Clearwater Valley (2 hrs north of Kamloops)in 5 years - we have 10 acres of ex pasture land that is growing back to it's natural state of spruce and silver birch trees.
What can we also plant in this type of area now that will be established when we get out there full time eg deciduos trees, bushes, fruit trees etc.

Also can anyone recommend book titles of guides to help us choose the right plants to grow. Thanks - Annette

Silver birch is not natural here, it's an old world species. For ideas of plants to grow in the interior look for a copy of Searles, THE GARDEN OF JOY.

You can also browse through the fruit trees forum on here - a fair number of questions from people in the BC interior asking for advice on fruit trees. Might be nice to start a small orchard for yourself.
