Hi I have two acers which are suffering from I dont know what. Both of them did very well last year but come this year and after quite a lot of rain the both are suffering. One had been used as a squat for black fly which got sprayed with soapy water but does not seem to have recovered and now Im wondering if it is suffering from some form of wilt the other also had black fly but not as many but its leaves are tiny and are slowly dying. I have tried to find pictures of all the effects of the various things which can affect acers but to no avail. Can somebody give me any clues as to what might be the problem and where is possible to find pictoral examples of the the various bugs and disease which killing my plants off. Regards
Yes: Maples are prone to wilting and dying back. If you have a garden centre you trust or other walk-in information source (here we have USDA Cooperative Extension regional offices and Master Gardener clinics at nurseries and libraries) take samples there for comment.
Thanks for the suggestion, Im not sure if we have such things here but I would be loath to lose them, so I will pursue as many avenues as I can (hopefully acer lined).
This might be worth looking at--includes many not-very-clear photos of maple disease symptoms on leaves, bark, etc. http://maple.dnr.cornell.edu/pubs/diseases/diseases.htm
Thank for the reply and the link, which I have checked out but there doesnt appear to be anything that resembles what is happening to my trees. I still havent taken them out of the pots to check out the root system which would appear to the only course of action left open. Once again many thanks.
