Is it due for a Summer prune Keith ? Becoming quite a monster !! And they say seedlings don't do well on their own roots...Lol
Derek I started an enormous air layer on the left side.. I will try to get a picture of that. 2+ inch caliper branch being layered. Hopefully it will take.
Now that is some air layering Keith !!! Please do take a photo and post when you remove the bucket. Hopefully you will have some amazing roots.
I put flagstone on top to keep soil from washing out with rain. I moved one this weekend and found roots
Removed and planted out the layer today 08/25/2022 I am planning on getting watering timer to mist foliage regularly If it survives it will be my proudest horticultural accomplishment :)
@LoverOfMaples I have had a very busy spring. The "mother" tree has outgrown it's space. I have take a number of layers and moved to more appropriate locations. I plan to take the whole tree as a layer next spring. Thanks for reaching out
Mine is doing great! I'm keeping it in a pot to keep the size under control, see how strong of a grower it is, lol. I'll be trying to fine a place in the ground for it soon and try to keep it under control.
