Seed grown acer
Based on seeds held upright has some shirasawanum in parentage
Spring 2016/Fall 2016
Spring 2017/Fall 2017
Spring 2018/Fall 2018
What a fast grower! Nice tree for the spot too. I agree it looks like shirasawanum x palmatum.
Yes, it has grown so fast.
I am a bit worried it will overgrow that spot.
I planted out an air-layer from this year in a place where it will have more room. Will eventually remove the crab apple from behind it.
Spring and fall 2019. A very hard winter 18/19 and the tree damaged significantly.
strong tree trying to recover. looking a lot better than last spring
Hi @kbguess, seedlings do not get the attention they deserve. Lovely tree Keith.
Best year for fall color so far...
Absolutely Keith !!! What a tree.
And it looks so drowsy, as if it really would prefer to stay asleep. Great photos Keith.
Wow, it has vigour. Just shows that when we plant
a seedling, it’s final height is a complete unknown
May 5 2021--mother tree and air layer done in 2018
2 for the price of 1, brilliant Keith.
Probably will "dismantle" it piece by piece by layering.
Going to outgrow its initial spot way too quickly.
The location of the layer has plenty of room thankfully
Lol yes, I think it's time Keith. But a project that the forum would enjoy seeing if you can post the process ?
The dismantling has begun...
Separated two layers so far
Both have been potted and looking decent
Here is the larger
I removed 60% of the foliage after this picture
An amazing new tree for the price of a little patience and know how. Well done Keith.
Absolutely wonderful Keith. Some of the very best are unnamed seedlings. Just look at Charlie's on Amazing maples !!! You have both given excellent proof of this.
@Acerholic Thanks for the encouraging words
I now have 6 layers from the tree that I have planted out in the yard. It shines this time of year
