    Hi
Hope someone can help. I have just bought an Acer Shirasawanum Aureum today, and was surprised to find that the label doesnt tell you what type of soild it has to be planted in. I have other species of Acer, and they have had to be planted in Ericaceous Soil, Does anyone know if this plant has to go in the same soil or a different type. Dont know what to do?
Also bought a Acer Palmatum Bloodgood, and dont know what soil that has to be planted in either. I am planting both plants in pots
    tks for your help
    Bev

Ericaceous potting mixes are fine to use for Japanese maples but it is a misconception that they are actually necessary.

The key when growing Japanese maples with commercial composts is to improve the drainage by mixing in some chipped bark, perlite or coarse grit etc.
