    Hello all,

I'm a student in England and I was wondering if anyone collected an excess of seeds which they no longer have space/Time for?

I don't mind what Acer they are it could be Acer buergerianum or Acer palmatum anything would be really great. Or even some wood which I could grow as a cutting?

I know it's a bit of a long shot but I thought would ask, just in case.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    I can get Acer pseudoplatanus and A. platanoides seed . . . :-)

Maybe also A. cappadocicum, if they haven't all shed and blown away.

That would be great, thanks so much. I have never grown them before, so can't wait. I'll send you a PM with my details.

Thanks Michael for the seeds, they are great.

Does anyone have any Acer buergerianum or Acer palmatum seeds they wouldn't mind sending me?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Good grief! My native Acer macrophyllum (Big leaf / Oregon Maple) produces tens of thousands of seeds. I'm sure they all germinate each year, some of which are starting now. The lawn mower takes care of them each year. Are you intested in some of these?

    Cheers, LPN.

Hi LPN - you'd need to check UK/EU plant health & import regulations. Clean, freshly harvested seed in autumn would be no problem, but germinating seed with soil or whatever attached to keep them alive in transit is unlikely to be admitted. Annoying, unfortunately (as I'd be interested in a few too!).

Messy tree ... absolutely! It's a fast grower and a behemoth as well.

Micheal F. A good many seed are still dormant and have not sprouted.

    Cheers, LPN.

Really don't understand why the local city and municipality authorities recommend they be planted on city lots and such. Drop large branches, etc. If you like excitement, have a large one overhanging your house, then listen to the wind howling and breaking branches.

Also, if planted nearer than 15 feet to sidewalks, driveways etc., the roots will heave the concrete or asphalt. They are for for half acre lots or larger. Thankfully I have a large lot and at times, wish that tree wasn't there even still.

    Cheers, LPN.

Thanks for the offer, Michael F sent me some other nice Acer seeds so they should keep me going, but I'm still trying to get some Acer buergerianum and Acer palmatum seeds at the moment.

I'm having real trouble finding these two acer seeds anywhere near me so if anyone has some of these germinating near them please could you collect me a few?

    Thanks,
    Tom
