    Hello,

I found growing in the container of a palmatum dissect, Virdis, I picked up last spring this seedling. It was just developing it's seed leaves when I noticed it.

I was surprised to see the plant eventually develop into the shape it is now at the end of it's first "hot" summer, after seeing the raggy lower leaves.

Would any of you venture a guess at what it may be? And more importantly, do you think it is worth keeping to grow on?

Thank you for your time and ideas,
    Skeezix

If you found it in the container of a dissectum 'Viridis', there is a great chance that you own a seedling of dissectum 'Viridis' ;-))

Seedlings are always more vigorous that their grafted parents.

It will depend on your tastes, do you like its spring colors?, do you like its fall colors?, do you like its shape?. You will have to discover all that by yourself since nobody knows what your seedling will look like exactly (although the parents influence will be somewhere there)

    Thank you for your thoughts.

Gomero, I appreciate your comments, which are much as I expected after reading many other threads from this forum.

I half expected someone to say, "throw it away it is just a weed-tree seedling." I find a certain excitement in watching an unknown take shape, good or bad. If it pleases me I'll consider it a bonus.

If it is a Virdis offspring, I was concerned about it forming an early drooping shape(the plant in the pot where I found it has that). I hope to guide it to a point that I like, to see what can be done. (Good one to experiment with, methinks.)

Thank you, I appreciate your many informative posts.
