Each year at the end of may, I have this nice red new growth on my Acer saccharum. These are young seedlings (2 years). Do you see the same on mature trees ?
Hi Andre, I've not seen this bright of coloration on Sugar Maple but then I'm pretty busy about that time of the year. 'Fall Fiesta' is described as having some reddish coloration on the new growth but I've not actually seen it. And for a little fall color.......... Regards, Ernie
I'm trying to figure out what about a tree near me makes people say it's a Sugar Maple, so I was pleased to see some Sugar Maples with labels today at VanDusen Botanical Garden. I hope I remember correctly that the last photo in this group was also labelled as Acer saccharum. This tree was in the maples section of the garden. It's the tree on the left (or centre). The one on the right is A. saccharum 'Legacy'.
@GreenLarry, have a look at this article Larry. The Globe and Mail: The Norway maple is a bully, and shouldn’t be confused with the sugar maple tree Quite a sensitive topic in Canada.
A Sugar maple in Sacramento California. not known for its tolerance of hot climates with mild winters, but here it is
Yummy stuff! I wish I lived in a cold climate. The only "maple syrup" we have here in California is the fake processed corn syrup.
Plant flowers, invite bees (some might escape from the almond fields to live a real, longer life), try honey. There are so many different ones, it's like wine, many subtle tastes. And it's a natural medicine.
