    Hello,
My apartment is considering removing 5 large Acer rubrum [red unset maples] because they are planted about 5 feet from the sidewalk and 5 feet from our building. Also, they are growing very very fast - about 2 feet or more a year. Branches are already touching the building. Some research tells me that this tree should be removed because of the roots can break up the sidewalk and we just spent a couple million dollars on building remediation. Problem - residence love the trees. While others want trees that are safe and slower growing.
I would like to find facts about this tree and make sure we are making the right decision. Any direction where I can find more info. It is going to be a battle either way.
    thanks

Red maple grows over 100 ft. tall on good sites. Replace with vine maple.
