Re: Acer Platanoides Walderseei Not sure how this ugly thing with badly distorted and discoloured leaves can be called "super, beautiful"!! It just looks diseased.
Re: Acer Platanoides Walderseei "one man's meat is another man's poison" as it is said. My Waldersii has a fu-like variegation dusting not the Drummondii-like solid green variegation of alex' above plant and the leaves are less incised, more palmate. if one loves variegation like I do (and I think alex does), this is a lovely plant
Re: Acer Platanoides Walderseei two interesting point,Michael please write your preferite maple... Katsura tanks for your word!have you pics of your Walderseei?
Re: Acer Platanoides Walderseei Any species, in its natural wild-occurring form! A really big old Acer pseudoplatanus is a superb sight, with its shaggy-scaly pinkish bark and stout 'muscular' trunk and branches. A group of Acer platanoides in flower in early spring in the Alps is beautiful, too. Further afield, Acer maximowiczianum with its delightful softly furry leaves is one of the best maples. And an old Acer macrophyllum draped in rainforest mosses and lichens is something I would very much like to see too.
Re: Acer Platanoides Walderseei Should have speckling producing an overall gray appearance, this is something else.
Re: Acer Platanoides Walderseei alex, i do not have a digital camera, but as I implied in my post my Waldersii is somewhat different from yours, just speckled like a washed-out green color or greyish just like Ron says above. alex, you are always welcome. You give a great deal to this forum.
Re: Acer Platanoides Walderseei uhm, correct osservations ,but this pics are of young leaves and is my first seasons with this maple;some maples in Italy climate want 1or 2 years for show the correct variegation;i see simmilar effect in acer pseudoplatanus Nietzii and in acer rubrum Candice Ice,now have good variegation, but in the first season have pooor variegation...
Looked at some of these at a local garden center. As you say the younger, outer portions of the branches have these partly green leaves with the rest producing entirely (or nearly so) stippled leaves.
Ron ,tanks for this observation,in this period the leaves of my Walderseei, are burned sigh! Kaitan special ciao
