Acer pictum ssp. mayrii

    Hi Alex,

    Although many of us would like to keep the reference to A. mono, the correct name is now A. pictum var mayrii.

    Thanks for the pictures, and also the link to Bordehill. I will certainly arrange a visit as my sister lives not too far from there.

    var mayrii is supposed to have glabrous to glaucous branches, did you notice this? A. pictum is so variable I think it is difficult to distinguish sometimes the different forms. (Well basically my opinion is that taxonomically pictum is a mess...:)) My tree, A. pictum ssp pictum ostensibly, more resembles f. ambiguum from the drawings in Maples of the World. And, it comes from Esveld! :)

    I would like to try and grow various different forms and sources of A. pictum
