Spring leaves from today (4.21.06). The age of this tree is like 6-7 year old. It has not photographed well as an entire plant, but stands about 6-7 ft tall, somewhat twiggy and open. Without a doubt, one of my favorites.
Wou Nishiki has wonderful spring colours, (see pic.1 taken 22nd of April) and the leaf form contrasts well with other Palmatum varieties (see pic.2 taken 10th of May).
This is a nice pretty tree which everyone likes but no one takes it home. The spring color gets attracts the attention but other spring trees have a little more pop. The summer color is not strong.
A nice photo of yourself with it would be great for the Cheering ourselves up with maples thread. Did you see the suggestion by Alain and Emery D ?
I did just a little while ago. It's a very good idea. I was thinking which tree or trees I would like to pose in front of lol.
Lovely colour at first leafout, and a well shaped leaf at all stages. I think of the leaf shape as "not quite dissectum", seems different to most matsumurae shapes, possibly a hybrid with something not in the palmatum/amoenum/matsumurae trio? Holds up well to full afternoon sun in UK conditions but summer colour is green and nothing to write home about before popping again in fall.
