Found in North Carolina by Jason Stephens, this coral bark Japanese maple has yellow bark at the base of the tree, orange in the middle, and red at the tips giving it a wild fire appearance.
Pictures do not do the bark justice - it is unbelievably bright and intense, almost neon. The color change from the trunk through the branches is lovely. According to Tim, this is supposed to be hardier than a lot of the other colored bark maples (I LOVE Bihou, just doesn't do well with our winters), so I'm hopeful I won't experience too much die-back with it.
