The correct spelling for this strain is "Wendy" A selection from the Netherlands at D. van der Maat.

I thought I'd look up Acer p. 'Wendy', not that I think a newish selection like it would be available near me - just wanted to see more photos. Anyway, I found one for sale at a nursery in the UK at 499 pounds! Would that be a misprint or are some Japanese maples really fetching such a high price?

    Yes! it's not surprising!
In France there is a nursery that sells maple trees that are 35 years old or even 40 around 6500 € (5446 pounds)

Good morning Margot, prices have rocketed recently and I'm seeing many for sale in the thousands now. It will be interesting to see when everything has calmed down after covid is a distant memory if prices fall.

It sounds like collecting maples is entering the same realm as fine wine and racehorses. :-)

Yes its heading that way. The increase in theft of Bonsai around the world in 2021 shows just how our trees can be heading in that direction with the prices as they are now.
