Acer palmatum 'Vic's Broom'

Here is a little broom that I grafted last winter/spring, Acer palmatum 'Vic's Broom'. The picture was made in June 2003.

 

Any update on this plant?

 

Maybe from the same origin as Vic's Pink?

 

My experience with this dwarf is that it tends to "double-leaf". In otherwords, at the base of the leaf petiol and secondary smaller leaf will emerge.

The pictures below are of Vic’s Broom that I received from Brian about four years ago. It is an interesting cultivar and has an upright growth habit for a broom. The fall pictures show the double leaf habit that Brian talks about.

 

Here is my Vic's Broom taken on 5-10-09. It had no dieback last winter. Seems hardy.

 

I violated by own rule of not posting pics of a tree until it has been at least year with me (its been bad luck! and doesn't really give any info about habit in local growing conditions). I just love this little guy, though. Picture doesn't really make clear how tiny these leaves are.

 

An interesting good growing dwarf for me.
It has gotten denser and denser. It has had dieback some years, but a lot of the dwarfs leaf out early and continue to grow maybe too long once the cold weather hits.
It tends to grow laterally and in all sorts of unexpected directions.

 

My Vic's Broom always provides nice color and is happy in indirect afternoon sun.
