Acer palmatum variety to Zone 10?

    Kathy, perhaps you did not get my advice clearly: you can successfully grow Japanese maples in Mallorca knowing that the leaves will most likely scorch a bit at the end of the summer. Mallorca is about the same latitude of New York and Northern Japan, so there is no issue with daylength. Winter temperatures normally dip into the low 40's, upper 30's, as you can see in the attached picture, this provides sufficient chilling that, together with the shortened daylight, will trigger dormancy, probably in December.

    Hi Gomero, yes I see what you mean. Thanks for the update. I didn't think the dormancy period would be enough. I will post again when I've planted one...
