My first posting of my Acer palmatum 'Ukon'. I have it planted in morning sun and afternoon shade. But as can be seen it still has the tell tell signs of Summer heat and wind scorch appearing on the tips of the lobes. This photo was taken this morning on the 1st August 2020, so bearing in mind we have had several days of very strong drying winds and record high temperatures, it is not doing too bad at all. This maple is not everybody's cup of tea, but I love the beautiful greens it gives all through the Summer.
17th August 2020, now three days of heavy rain and my trees are picking up at last. My little Ukon has coped incredibly well this Summer, tried to get a close up of the leaves to show this.
August 29th 2020 and Autumn colours are very fast approaching. It even feels like we are in October today rather than August. 7° C at the moment. New growth and leaf scorch all in one photo. I think this tells the story of this August.
Well it's the last day of August 2020 and as we have had a lot of rain and cooler weather here in England over the past two weeks, all my maples are doing well for the time of year. Another angle to show that indeed the leaves have stayed bright green all Summer long.
7th September 2020 and in Southern England it is getting warmer once again. So surprised to see my maples with such dry leaves this morning. But this year is so very different for so many reasons!!? Yes new growth, can you believe it!! Looks so very fragile in September!!!
24th September 2020 and Autumn has really hit home quickly. Cold nights and lots of rain already. But raindrops on colourful leaves is why Autumn is a favorite for so many of us Maple enthusiasts. Without a doubt my favourite in the garden this morning is my Ukon.
October 6th 2020 and very wet, but with early morning sunshine it is making my maples look rather pretty IMO. My Ukon also has new growth at this late stage.
16th October 2020 and I had to show the greenest maple in my garden atm. It is just amazing at how my Ukon is holding onto it's Summer colour.
23rd November 2020 and I thought I would post this to show that not everything has the vivid reds, orange and yellows. But I enjoy the greens just as much and feel they are overlooked far too much IMO.
It was lovely to chat to some new members on PM's the other day, one of the questions was, can I post more of my early Spring photos to show their progression ? So here goes on the 25th March 2021. I will be removing those little monsters on my buds very shortly !!!
19th April 2021 and now the lime greens of Ukon now make a full appearance. IMO Spring green is the very best of all greens.
22nd June 2021 and two months since my last posting shows my Ukon now in full leaf. There are some spots from the excessive heat at the beginning of June, but I can live with that and it's important to show the blemishes to members as well as the good.
19th May 2022 and in full leaf. It is important to have the different shades of greens in a garden and Ukon gives that.
26th May 2022 and this cultivar keeps the Spring greens going longer than most. Happy in the sun also.
