Ooof, good luck D: what an unhelpful Spring we're having so far! Crossing my fingers that the British weather changes its mind and you guys are spared the worst of the frosts!

Big Ukigumo continues to put out sprays of white leaves: this is my third year with this tree, and the palest it's been so far. So pleased!

This one does seem to get paler with age Xi. A dark background might be the next step !!!? Looking lovely on this Good Friday though.

Ooooh, now that's an interesting thought - I like that! I can't move it out of its current spot as that's the shadiest part of my garden, but now I'm wondering if I can find some nice dark bamboo/willow panelling for underneath that window. You've certainly got me thinking now!!

This morning, troublesome one this but I had it in the wrong place. Hopefully this year I have more luck…

This one does like a lot of shade. But when in the right place it gives so much pleasure.

Beautiful D, my two Ukis are struggling a bit this year, I don't think they liked being moved back into pots, but they are alive so hopefully will pick up. It's funny really, the one I've had for around twelve has been on a total tour for that time now back about six feet from where it started, wish I'd left it there really, lol.

Thanks N, funny how we move them around to get it right, then realise it was in the right place all along. Struggling for perfection is our trouble Lol. Have a good B/H.

It's a good year for my Ukigumo twins: barely any green leaves at all on the big 'un or the little 'un!

Your comment last time has set me off on the track of finding some dark willow panels as a backdrop: haven't been able to get that thought out of my head since you raised it! Once I find something that will fit in this narrow little area without being tall enough that it blocks the kitchen window, it's happening!

All things considered if I had to pick just one maple it'd be Ukigumo, although there is Olivia to take into account, hmm. Anyway, I love everything about these and I'm pleased to report that both of mine seem to have survived their transplant, not looking very photogenic though but there's always next year.

They take two years to settle in N, whether it's coming from a nursery or transplanting in one owns garden. I'll be looking out for both of yours in 2023.

14th June 2022 and my Ukigumo just keeps giving and giving. Just give it the right conditions and it will give years of pleasure.

So very difficult ATM, but it's good to see it's keeping going. Am using grey water for a few weeks here in Hampshire. Soooo many crispy leaves and defoliation. Hope they make it to next Spring. Think Autumn colour will be difficult to non existent this year. But looking at the patterns. We shouldn't get another heat wave like this for 46 years...... Lol
