A few close-ups of variegation on the leaves. He's in light shade all day and I hope in a few years he'll go all-white, though I'm enjoying the green dappled contrast this year.
My Ukigumo today. In the ground in heavy shade, after being eaten almost completely by a baby rabbit early last year.
This and Oridono nishiki are my wife's favourites in our garden. But what's not to love when you see photos like yours Xi.
25th June 2021 and my Ukigumo is enjoying the clouds. It wasn't too happy with the heat at the beginning of the month, but I keep it in a lot of shade, so it will be fine.
Four of mine from today , seeing some nice whites this year, not so warm in the north of England today for sure.
2nd July 2021 and my Ukigumo just gets better and better each year. I will never move it from the position it's in now. It loves this shade.
Morning D, it's definitely seems to be a good year for Ukigumo, I don't think I've ever seen so much pink on mine before.
Thank you, D - it's in the one spot in my garden where there's never any full sun at any time, and it does seem to love it!
Perfect, don't move it. When you find a place that suits a maple, then that's where it should stay. 'There's no place like home'.
I know the variegation is the most famous thing about this tree, but I was really drawn by the delicate pinks and colour-changes of the new growth this morning:
My guy is getting greener over the summer as the new growth comes in. Still a very pretty tree, though.
My Ukigumo has taken off like a shot this year, stretching out those new branches towards the sky. I need to get some longer stakes, since it's now too big for the ones I have and is flopping a bit where unsupported....
Ukigumo is waking up for spring: both my big tree and little tree are beginning to leaf out with some lovely pale foliage.
Lovely to see Xi. Looking so delicate and pretty in the morning sun. Mine is so far behind yours and tbh I'm glad as I have a hard frost forecast tonight. I hope it's not heading your way...
