I live in Maryland, zone 7. Just purchased a Tsuma gaki. Most of the info I got says it can be planted in full sun/Part shade but the nursery told me it is definitely OK to plant it in full sun. I am worried as I do not have any half shade area to plant it and it is rather an expensive mature plant. Any one klnows or has planted it in full sun?

    Cris,

I have a TG in a pot here in Philly. I would think that in MD you'd want partial shade or a spot with just a few hours of full sun.

Alex is right you might get better responses posting your question over here.

I spoke to Iseli Nursery in Oregon. They claim that they grow theirs in full sun. They are the grower for the Tsuma gaki that I purchased from Susana Farms and Nursery. Susana Farms in Boyds, Maryland did tell me that I can grow it in full sun but I was not too convinced as the owner had led me astray on two other plants which I have to transplant in the fall. I also spoke to Iseli about it. They just commented that the Omarika Skyland grows in full sun and I am just plain lucky to have received one that is a NANA and has not grown but 3 ft wide and 2.5 ft tall in the 10 years since I own it. They claim that maybe that is the reason why it gets sunburned. After 10 years, I wil have to move it in September. Thanks a lot for your info. I have not decided what I will do with the one I got as I have very little part sun/shade area. I have to move another maple, that would be the butterfly as the sun does scorch it. I have to find other maple to replace it.
