Sorry to hear about that Xi-feng, but it doesn’t look that bad tbh, hopefully yours will be doing much better real soon.

Thanks guys! I've been dutifully spraying every night (the dogs are not best pleased!) but what seems to work is waking up when I hear it climb over the fence every night in the early hours and running out into the garden in my pyjamas to chase it away before it can start uprooting things. The things we do for our trees...!

Summer Gold has recovered from the neightbourhood fox's abuse and is really bouncing back - getting some of that strong colour going now:

Absolutely - it's a cracking little tree and so un-fussy compared to many of them. Just a cheerful little patch of gold in the garden, what could be better?

Unfortunately we can’t get Summer Gold here in Australia, I find Orange Dream have similar colours too and they’re fairly heat tolerant so they’re my favourite so far :-).

My Orange Dream hates me and I cannot keep it looking good -- Summer Gold on the other hand stands up to full sun, wind, foxes, locusts, tidal waves and the four horsemen of the apocalypse as far as I can tell. I hope it makes its way to Aus as soon as possible so you can get one!

Just out of curiosity, what colours are your Orange Dream? Mine is a predominantly yellow( I just love yellow Japanese maples) with red margins which is a perfect colours combination for me. Yes I’d love to have Summer Gold real soon as our summers can be quite intense, some days in the low 40 Celsius, and especially after seeing yours and how it can handle all sorts of challenges I just can’t barely wait.

Not as far on as Xi's, but if you can get one @DreamerLam in the next few years in Australia, you will not regret it.

So I popped out and took another couple of pics for you. First is my little bright Summer Gold for comparison purposes:

    20220417 Summer Gold-1.jpg

Then on the left below is my manky Orange Dream that lets a few branches die if I so much as look at it. Pretty green, but at least it isn't frazzled yet(!) Finally for a full comparison is my new (big!) Summer Gold which arrived earlier this week. It's noticeably more yellow than my OD, but still greener than my little SG (I suspect it hasn't been kept in full sun wherever it was before it came to me, so hopefully the colour will improve once it gets settled into its new spot and/or with the second flush of leaves later in the summer. We'll see!)

Thank you Xi-feng for the great photos, it’s interesting my Orange Dream( I have 3 ) were never that green when they were leafing out but my friend’s one who lives just 10 mins drive from me has that exact same colour. Nevertheless it’s still a good looking tree you have there and that big Summer Gold aaah it’s just too beautiful even though it’s not as yellow as your smaller one .

Now this one the greenhouse can't take credit for bringing on early as it's in the ground.

30th April 2022 and my Summer gold is growing faster than any other maple in my garden. It really is a very hardy tree.

My Summer Golds have actually not been the brightest yellows in the garden so far this year (that prize goes to Jordan!) but they're starting to come into their own now as the days grow longer:

Understand your thoughts about yellows Xi. But Summer gold won't fry in a few weeks.
    Yours is looking amazing.
