Beni Shigitatsu Sawa on the left, Shigitatsu Sawa on the right again:
Shigitatsu Sawa has leafed out with an explosion of pale leaves, while Beni Shigitatsu Sawa is still tightly budded beside it. No comparisons until the lazy one wakes up, but Shigitatsu Sawa is so pretty all alone at this time of year:
Yes, I confirm! it is so pretty:
Beni Shigitatsu Sawa finally woke up, a good two weeks after Shigitatsu Sawa, so the comparisons can begin for this year. Shigitatsu Sawa being the green/pale one; Beni Shigiatsu Sawa in peach/pink:
It is such a good idea to add these comparisons. I think we should do more of them. Well done Xi.
Thansk D -- these two are my favourites to compare, just because I had no idea before I bought them which one I'd prefer (hence me getting both!) Last year I vastly preferred 'Beni' throughout late summer and autumn, but that's why it's so nice to see Shigitatsu Sawa completely steal the show in Spring: this is its time to shine!
23rd April 2022 and on St George's day here in England, my Shigitatsu Sawa has got underway.
Shigitatsu Sawa (bottom) and Beni Shigitatsu Sawa (top) :
Shigitatsu Sawa (top) and Beni Shigitatsu Sawa (bottom)
2nd May 2022 and now fully leafed out. It did enjoy the rain yesterday.
23rd May 2022 and after conversations on the forum over the weekend regarding Shigitatsu Sawa and Reticulatum, I thought a photo of my Shigitatsu Sawa this morning and how it's progressing.
It's the time of the year when Shigitatsu Sawa and Beni Shigitatsu Sawa look very very similar. Here's the pic of both of them, make your guesses:
(Answer: Shigitatsu Sawa top, Beni Shigitatsu Sawa bottom)
That was my thoughts as well Xi. Those pink tinges are the sure give away with Beni.
19th June 2022 and close to the solstice, means a dark green for my Shigitatsu Sawa.
maple rather difficult to grow but this year in the shade (2 hours of sun at the end of the day) it is pretty!
Still looking very similar as we wait for Beni to take on that sudden flush of colour. Shigitatsu Sawa top, Beni Shigitatsu Sawa bottom:
