Here are two 'Sharp's Pygmy' that I created. One a low graft about seven inchs tall and the other, grafted two feet high on a standard, about four feet tall. Photos made in April 2004.

Low grafted tree in august. Has slight leaf burn because i moved it from shade to sun. So far I find the tree to very hardy.

Most of the fall color is over but the Sharp's Pygmy caught my eye today.

Here is my beautiful Sharp's Pygmy. I think it is a very mature tree. I bought it at a local nursery for a little over $200. It is about 3ft x 3ft and has a very nice shape and thick trunk. About 1.5 years ago I had no Japanese Maples, but now I have over 50 of them, about 30 are planted in the yard. I am very exciting about the spring colors I will see this year.

Here is a picture of my 'Sharp's Pygmy', taken today, its the first bonsai that I created now in it's third season of growing as bonsai. Every year this tree continues to impress me, getting better and better with each new season.

Sharp’s Pigmy is a very nice tree for a container. I’ve had mine for 10 years, starting from a new graft, and it’s been growing in containers the whole time. I’ve probably repotted it three times. Last spring, I transplanted a seedling from my yard that is starting to look amazingly similar to my Sharp’s.

Thanks D! I've had it for about two months -- can't wait until it looks like some of the gorgeous 'big pygmies' in this thread!

Still those tiny leaves, just more of them. It's such a fun little tree, like a pre-made bonsai:

Haha, I'm not sure I have a choice! It's my third year with this one and it's quite happy and healthy, but has grown not-at-all during its time with me! Perhaps if I live to a hundred it might have gotten a little bigger by that time :)
